How to install the Alfresco agent

How to install the Alfresco agentlink

When choosing a location to install the Ascema agent for an Alfresco server it is usually best to locate the agent as close in the network to the server as possible to reduce network issues. The ideal place to install the Ascema agent is on the same server as is running the Alfresco instance where that is possible.

There are installers for different operating systems to support the installation of the Ascema agent onto the ideal network location for working with the Alfresco service

  • Windows
  • Linux - either .rpm or .deb installers depending on distribution of Linux in use.

On a Windows serverlink

Before installing the Ascema Agent you will first need to download the .msi installer.

  • Double-click on the AscemaEndpointAgent msi file to start the installation process
  • You will usually see a security warning about opening this executable file

  • The publisher GEOLANG LIMITED confirms that this is a genuine signed installer; click Run to proceed with the installation.
  • Depending on your version of Windows operating system you will then see a Windows security confirmation request. This should also show GEOLANG LIMITED as the signed publisher, select Yes to proceed with the installation
  • The installer will then install the Ascema agent on your computer

An installation of the Ascema agent will not configure your agent for use with the Alfresco server within the Ascema system. After performing an interactive installation you will need to modify the device settings, see How to configure an Ascema agent for use with Alfresco

On a Debian Linux serverlink

Before installing on a Debian Linux server - for example on Ubuntu - you will need to download the .deb installer.

If you need to set the server address of the Ascema Endpoint Manager, particularly useful in network environments where the UDP traffic used to discover manager location may be restricted then this should be done before running the installer

  • Create a folder /var/opt/geolang/ascemaagent
  • In this folder create a file ascemaagent.ini
  • The file should have the contents
[server]
server={Domain name or IP address of server}

On a Red Hat Linux serverlink

Before installing on a Red Hat Linux server - or CentOS server - you will need to download the .rpm installer

[server]
server={Domain name or IP address of server}
