How to install the File Server agent

How to install the File Server agentlink

To get set up for using Ascema to help you manage any confidential information hosted on your file servers you first need to install the Ascema agent onto each file server.

Installing interactivelylink

Before installing the Ascema Agent you will first need to download the installer. Your system administrator should inform you where the installer can be downloaded from.

  • Double-click on the AscemaEndpointAgent-2.1.msi file to start the installation process
  • You will usually see a security warning about opening this executable file
  • Depending on your version of Windows operating system you will then see a Windows security confirmation request. Select Yes to proceed with the installation
  • The installer will then install the Ascema agent on your computer

An interactive installation of the Ascema agent will not configure your agent as a file server within the Ascema system. After performing an interactive installation you should change the device type in the management console, see How to configure an Ascema agent as a file server agent

Installing with Powershelllink

A file server installation will more often be performed using Powershell either directly or via a remote installation tool such as SCCM.

For a basic file server installation scripted via Powershell, either local or via remote management tools :

.\AscemaEndpointAgent-2.2.msi FILESERVER=true /passive

There is an additional parameter which can be supplied to the installer:

  • SERVERURL - set the server address of the Ascema Endpoint Manager, particularly useful in network environments where the UDP traffic used to discover manager location may be restricted

So to install on a network where discovery may not function due to UDP restrictions the Powershell command to install might be:

.\AscemaEndpointAgent-2.2.msi SERVERURL={server hostname or IP address} FILESERVER=true /passive
